Glenn Hills High School

Summary:

Glenn Hills High School is a public high school in Augusta, Georgia, serving 883 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Richmond County School District, which is ranked 176 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Unfortunately, Glenn Hills High School has consistently ranked in the bottom 10-15% of Georgia high schools over the past decade, currently ranking 444 out of 458 high schools in the state.

The data shows that Glenn Hills High School faces significant challenges, with a steady decline in its four-year graduation rate, from 80.3% in 2017-2018 to just 64.8% in 2021-2022. This is significantly lower than the state average of around 80% and the Richmond County average of around 70%. The school's performance on the Georgia Milestones assessments is also well below the state and district averages, with only 4.9% of students proficient or better in American Literature and Composition, compared to 20.1% in Richmond County and 42% statewide. Additionally, Glenn Hills High School has an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, around 98% in recent years, indicating a high concentration of economically disadvantaged students.

Comparing Glenn Hills High School to nearby Johnson Magnet and Davidson Magnet School highlights the stark contrast in performance. These magnet schools consistently rank in the top 10-15% of Georgia high schools, have much higher test scores and graduation rates, and serve a more economically diverse student population. While Glenn Hills High School struggles, other Richmond County high schools, such as Laney High School and Cross Creek High School, also face challenges with low test scores, graduation rates, and high concentrations of economically disadvantaged students.

Open Quote yall might think this is a bad school but it isnt. the teachers only want to help students that care. they try to reach out to others and must of the "bad" students get help. these teachers are the realest teachers ever. you can trust them no matter what. i was a bad student and my health teacher pulled me aside and we talked for hours. he helped me out a whole lot. i could of been on the streets doing who know's what. but he helped me out and now im at augusta state university, taking pschology.
so no matter what you think this is a GREAT school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
