Pulaski County Elementary School

Summary:

Pulaski County Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 633 students in grades PK-5 in Hawkinsville, Georgia, which is part of the Pulaski County School District. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Georgia elementary schools over the past 10 years and performs below the state average on standardized tests, with proficiency rates ranging from 20.5% to 52.7% compared to the state averages of 37% to 48.2%.

Pulaski County Elementary faces significant challenges, including a very high poverty rate, with 100% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, compared to nearby schools that range from 28.75% to 83.9%. The school also spends less per student ($8,334 to $9,065) and has a higher student-teacher ratio (13.4 to 14.2) than many of the higher-performing nearby schools, such as Bonaire Elementary, Matthew Arthur Elementary, and Kings Chapel Elementary, which have proficiency rates 20-50 percentage points higher.

The persistent low performance and significant socioeconomic challenges faced by Pulaski County Elementary suggest that the school may require targeted interventions, increased funding and resources, and a focus on supporting students from low-income backgrounds in order to improve student outcomes and close the achievement gap with its more successful counterparts in the region.

Open Quote Horrible. Four years ag when my son started in pre-k the school system seemed to want parent interaction with the school. Now it wants the appearance of parent teacher interaction while they continue to play politics. If a parent asks questions there referred to websites where they see what there child/children are learning but never given upfront answers as to what is going on. Unless your downright rude with teachers and administrators you’ll be dismissed and treated indifferent. Not a good place for families who don’t have roots in the town. Close Quote

Open Quote Pulaski Elementary School is the perfect place to send your black children if you don't mind them being called racial slurs and intentionally misdiagnosed with learning disorders when they're actually gifted. Most of the teachers are not concerned with academically challenging the students because they use printouts that are found online as teaching/testing tools. The WHITE teachers are allowed to do and say whatever they want because they know their actions has NO consequence hence the racial slurs on a regular basis. The current principal, the white one, is a foul-mouth, uncouth racist who tries to hide is ineptitude by bullying everyone. So again, this is the school where you should enroll your black children if you want them to know what it's like attending school in the Jim Crow era in 2018. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
