Academically, Veterans Memorial Middle School consistently outperforms the Muscogee County and Georgia state averages in Milestones Assessment/Algebra I, with proficiency rates ranging from 87% to 100% over the past few years, compared to 21.4-38.7% for Muscogee County and 30.2-44% for Georgia. However, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies are generally higher than the district averages but still lag behind the state averages. Open Quote I rated the school average based on the lack of communication between the school and parents. Yes, I understand these kids are high school bound but there are times when getting information out of them is like pulling teeth. Occasionally a robo-call comes but the lack of communication is a problem. Teachers are available via email and the ones we've had have replied quickly.

The dress code varies and girls have been referred to as "too cute" by the principal. The dress code for girls must be followed because they're just too cute that the boys can't help but look at them. In this day and age, I find this kind of comment frightening.

Overall, it's a decent school but there are some things that are dragging this school down. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
