Lockheed Elementary School

Summary:

Lockheed Elementary School is a public elementary school in Marietta, Georgia, serving 736 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Marietta City School District, which is ranked 67 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, Lockheed Elementary has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of Georgia elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years.

Lockheed Elementary's academic performance is significantly lower than the Marietta City and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessments. In the 2023-2024 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in English Language Arts ranged from 14.8% to 29.9% across grades 3-5, well below the district and state levels. The school's performance in Mathematics and Science is also lagging behind. Additionally, Lockheed Elementary has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 76.87% to 85.33% over the past few years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

The data shows a stark contrast between the performance of Lockheed Elementary and the other schools in the Marietta City district, as well as some of the nearby schools in the Cobb County district. Schools like West Side Elementary and Marietta Center for Advanced Academics significantly outperform Lockheed Elementary on academic measures, despite serving similar grade levels and being located within a few miles of each other. Addressing the challenges faced by Lockheed Elementary will likely require a multi-faceted approach that considers the unique needs and circumstances of the school's student population.

Open Quote I have been a teacher for over 20 years and all I can say is, this is not a place to send your child. Marietta city schools are corrupt and everyone will protect one another to ensure their positions. They do not have the best interest of the youth at heart. I would choose my location of residency very wisely! Close Quote

Open Quote My son has attended Lockheed for two years and has been fortunate enough to have the same teacher for both kindergarten and first grade. His teacher has been nothing short of amazing. She is so patient and understanding with him. He is a very smart child, but gets bored and loses focus when he is not challenged. She understands this about him and finds different ways to challenge him everyday. Because of this, he is now doing 2nd and 3rd grade work! He also attends speech therapy in the school. His therapist has helped to improve his speech a hundred times better than what it was prior. The principal and staff are great people and really seem to have the children's best interest at heart. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
