Bradwell Institute

Summary:

Bradwell Institute is a public high school in Hinesville, Georgia, serving 1,755 students in grades 9-12. It is part of the Liberty County School District, which is ranked 132 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Bradwell Institute has seen fluctuating performance over the past decade, with its statewide ranking ranging from 173 to 329. While the school's four-year graduation rate of 90.5% in 2021-2022 is higher than the 89.2% rate at Liberty County High School, its proficiency rates on the Georgia Milestones assessments are consistently lower than the state averages across all subject areas. Compared to the nearby Richmond Hill High School, which significantly outperforms Bradwell Institute and the Liberty County district, the school's academic achievement is a concern.

Bradwell Institute has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 60.91% to 67.98% over the past three years, which is higher than the 60.17% rate at Liberty County High School. This, coupled with the school's lower test scores, suggests that Bradwell Institute may be serving a more economically disadvantaged population, which could present unique challenges. Additionally, the school's higher student-teacher ratio compared to nearby schools may be a contributing factor to its lower academic performance.

Open Quote Bradwell Institute sucks at discipline, and that overshadows everything else.
The district puts a lot of pressure on the school to limit number of referrals... as a result a lot of bad behavior is swept under the rug. Only problem is bad behavior escalates if it is not addressed. Administrators don't support teachers and students know it. As a result, students are often rude and outright defiant. Students wander the halls constantly instead of going to class, or play on their phones instead of doing work. Fights break out all the time and students do drugs in the bathrooms.
It's a shame, because there are a lot of good kids who deserve a quality education... Close Quote

Open Quote Absolutely horrible school. The teacher spend more time breaking up fights with the wanna be gang members then teaching. The teachers do not teach at all. My neighbors son goes to bradwell with my son. My sons friend was telling us about how he does not have to turn any of his work in on time and still gets 100 credit on it and that his teacher doesn't even grade them. He said she just takes the picture and gives him a 100. So I had my son not turn in a assignment. Then I had him answer all the questions wrong and turn it in a week late. When he turned it in the teacher gave him a 100. She didn't even look at it.

This school is the worst school I have ever seen. I am pulling my son out after this year. Close Quote

Open Quote The academics are relatively advanced. For the most part, the sports program is decent. What we lack in athleticism we make up for with our academics. Many of the teachers are friendly and ready to help. The school can be strict about certain things, such as dress code, but if you obey the rules (and code of conduct) you should be fine. The school really focuses on safety and being college ready. The school is continually- albeit slowly- getting better. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
