Jasper County Middle School

Summary:

Jasper County Middle School is a public middle school located in Monticello, Georgia, serving 630 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Jasper County School District, which is ranked 118 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Jasper County Middle School stands out for its strong performance on the Milestones Assessment, particularly in Algebra I, where 93.8% of students were proficient or better in 2023-2024, compared to 51.9% in the Jasper County district and 44% statewide. The school also has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 15 to 15.7 over the past three years, and spends more per student, between $8,863 and $9,202, than nearby schools like Indian Creek Middle School and Henderson Middle School.

However, Jasper County Middle School's statewide ranking has been declining, from 271 out of 543 Georgia middle schools in 2017-2018 to 360 out of 588 in 2023-2024, despite its strong Algebra I performance. This may be due to the school's high percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, ranging from 57.46% to 59.86% over the past three years, indicating significant socioeconomic challenges. While Jasper County Middle School outperforms some nearby schools, Putnam County Middle School has higher test scores in several subject areas, suggesting room for improvement at Jasper County Middle School.

Open Quote Bullying is rampant in this school, Teachers and administration are no help, they turn a blind eye. Test scores are horrid. Classrooms are disorganized. My son went from an "A" average to a D, I removed him from the environment and he is now on principals list again and in advanced courses. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
