Open Quote This school has went from being an above average school to just average. If it weren't for the great teachers it would definitely be a below average school. I have had more problems with this school this year than I have had the entire seven years we have attended. Again, the teachers are great; however, the administration (exception Dr. McDuffie) and the office staff are rude and unorganized. There used to be a sweet atmosphere in the school and now I'm lucky to even see anyone smile. I am highly disappointed in what MAE has become. "It feels like a prison" is what my child told me. How sad!!! Close Quote

Open Quote My child is autistic and entered MAES near the end of the school year (2011). He was in Kindergarten. After an interview with the principal, Mrs. Jolie Hardin, he was placed with Mrs. Joni Shannon and Mrs. Collins. He blossomed under their care! No one knew that he was autistic at his last school until the very end, so they treated him as a problem child. Not so with Mrs. Shannon! She is fully trained to handle autistic children in the mainstream classroom, and does so beautifully! Thank goodness the school decided to cycle Mrs. Shannon and her whole class together for 1st grade! Close Quote

Open Quote I had 3 children who attended this school and can't think of one bad thing to say. The teachers and administration are all wonderful. They provide a great learning environment for the students. The PTO is very active and provides fun activities for the students. Without question, this is the best elementary school in Houston County. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
