In the 2023-2024 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in English Language Arts ranged from 10.8% to 25.2% across grades 3-5, compared to 26.3% to 37.4% for Henry County and 37% to 48.2% for the state. This is significantly higher than the nearby schools, which have free/reduced lunch rates ranging from 46.57% to 72.6%. Despite the high free/reduced lunch rates, Oakland Elementary has a relatively high per-student spending, ranging from $10,180 to $11,565 over the past 3 school years, which is higher than some nearby schools.

Open Quote Poor leadership and action on part of the administrators. Teachers are very hostile with kids based on personally seeing it during a few lunch visits. Kids bully other kids with no resolution or communication to parents. No one cares in this school. The very few caring teachers are outweighed by the bad. Believe everything you hear. I am sorry if your child has to attend here. It makes you want to move out of your home just to be in a different school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
