Austin Road Middle School

Summary:

Austin Road Middle School is a public middle school located in Stockbridge, Georgia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 542 students. The school is part of the Henry County School District, which is ranked 152 out of 203 districts in Georgia and is rated 1 star out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Austin Road Middle School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Georgia middle schools, with proficiency rates on the Milestones Assessment that are significantly below the state and county averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics were around 30% and 20%, respectively, compared to state averages of 40-45%. However, the school's performance on the Algebra I End of Course exam is the only area where it outperforms the state and county, with 62.1% proficiency in 2023-2024. The school's high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 60% to 67.53% over the past three school years, suggests that it may be serving a population with greater socioeconomic challenges, which can impact academic achievement.

Compared to nearby schools, Union Grove Middle School consistently outperforms Austin Road Middle School on the Milestones Assessments, with proficiency rates that are 10-20 percentage points higher across most subject areas. Meanwhile, Stockbridge Middle School has even lower proficiency rates than Austin Road Middle School, ranking in the bottom 10% of Georgia middle schools. The school's consistent 2-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past decade indicates that it has struggled to improve its performance and may face systemic challenges within the Henry County School District.

Open Quote This school is awful, apparently they got away with these "academies" and is segregated from dumbest to smartest and these poor academy A students are made fun of because they are referred to as "dumb hall" by these other academies and even some teachers even make fun of academy A, and another thing is that alot of these teachers are very unorganized because they count assignments missing, as for my child, I went through her bookbag after I saw her science grades and I found 3 assignments that were counted missing AND THEY WERE GRADED! It shows that the teachers that work at this school are very unorganized. And there is a lady in the office that is very rude and ignorant, and did not help me at all. If you currently have your child enrolled in this school, then I recommend that you take him/her out of this school because I will never in my life enroll my child back into this school. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
