Open Quote I am in 11th grade and I am black and this school's workload load is crazy teachers give us soooo much work and act as if they are I our only class. This school is not diverse at all we have are Asians and white kids period. My GPA is 3.1 and these teachers never give you a break and really don't care they tell me to drop out if I can't handle it all the time. They are so fake (the school staff and students) they always assume I have done something even when I haven't like I get accused of cheating and then when they figure out I didn't oh he didn't cheat nothing happens its happened 4 times and I know its because I am black. People here are lame asf literally just don't come and save your self from this racist, overloading, crazy school it's not worth it. Especially if you want a good GPA. Close Quote

Open Quote I am very happy with GSMST for my son. He is an African-American and is very strong is science, math, and technology. He feels right at home with the academics offered at this unique high school. All the students from the various cultures are tolerant and very appreciative of others. I'm so pleased that this school is available, and that my son is flourishing. I don't think he would have found his niche at another public high school in Gwinnett, even though this county has many magnificent high schools. There's something peculiar about GSMST. EVERYONE gets along. Students help each other. They are kind and considerate. The principal, Dr. Jeff Matthews, knows the students by name. He's very in touch with what is needed academically and otherwise for the students to excel and be productive and engaged. Parents are well received and VERY involved. The school doesn't have to offer special programs to entice parents to visit the school. Parents want to attend the meetings, events, concerts, competitions, etc. Teachers go above and beyond their job descriptions. All of the staff is so helpful--office, cafeteria, custodial. Students really care about learning. Teachers care about students. There is a culture of respect, care, concern, and excellence. Thank you Mr. Wilbanks, the school board, and taxpayers for this wonderful and highly acclaimed school. Close Quote

Open Quote I go here... the courses are rigorous (probably heard them mention that word over and over at a public viewing of GSMST, but it is not an understatement). Other public high schools start with biology for their science in their freshman year, but our school instead starts with chemistry and physics. Sophomore science is AP Biology w/ labs or engineering (mandatory). Junior and Senior year are really up to the student because now they get to choose their science; some are AP Physics C, AP Physics E&M, AP Chemistry, Biochemistry Engineering, Alternative Energy, Robotics/Advanced Robotics, AP Environmental, and Nanotechnology and Material Engineering just to name a few. A students math course depends on their level when they enter high school; course 1. take integrated algebra/geometry/trig in first semester and pre-calculus in 2nd semester or 2. integrated algebra/geometry/trig for all of freshman year. Sophomore year depends on what course schedule you took your freshman year; if you took 1. You either take AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC 2. Pre-calculus yearlong. Junior year track 1. Calculus 2/3 or GATECH Calculus and 2. AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC. Senior year track 1. Differential Equations or AP Statistics 2. Calculus 2/3 or GATECH Calculus. Just because we are a stem school does not mean we do not focus on Humanities (my humanities classes were HARD but my AP US History and AP LANG teachers were amazing!), but the cool thing is they make every core course intertwined. For example, Writing a 20 page research paper (language arts) for a Science (science) Internship (mandatory 11th/12th grade) along with previous research already discovered (history) and the calculations of probability and percentage of errors (math) [I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER SEE THE DAY THIS WOULD HAPPEN... I DID THOUGH) This school has the most excepting students; everybody has someone like them at GSMST. Great Academically, Great Teacher-Student relationships (Did I mention we have the best and most devoted teachers) and wonderful support system too. We may not have sports but we make up in other areas for instances in state, national, and international competitions ! I know this is lengthy, but it is a little inside you may not (or might be really hard) to find on Google ! Hopefully this was helpful ! :) Close Quote
