Trickum Middle School

OK so we have had a teacher stabbed and three sexual assaults(all by the same kid, still not expelled) in the first semester. Other than that and a few bad teachers, good school.

Trickum Middle School is a school that pushes students to their limits or even above and beyond their limits.

The regular Ed teachers teach well but there is a issue with racial discrimination and unfair treatment of special needs children. The special needs teachers are all white women who treat the only African American boy student unfairly. The head special Ed teacher is rather young and one of the side teachers has what seems like a vendetta against the African American boy compared to a White girl.

The Principal is overbearing with an unnecessary focus on building an outdoor amphitheater that the teachers, students and parents do not want. The school Principal requires all students to enter the science fair, taking away the freedom of time for students to enter other competitions of their choosing, such as the county wide Reflections. Too much of the teacher's energy is focused on programs that make the school "look good" rather than on their day to day classroom operations. This is not the fault of the teachers, but rather the suffocating, ego stroking actions of the Principal. Input from parents and teacher to the Principal are always greeted with a smile and a yes, but no action follows.

The connection's teachers are most overlooked and understaffed. There seems to be no interest by this school to support the efforts of the dedicated connection's teachers, who get half the weekly class time of the academic teachers, but still manage to pull of outstanding band performances for games, outstanding orchestra performances for LGPE, and high school level visual arts creations.

I have spent many nights soothing upset children because they are burdened with 4 or 5 hours of homework. The Principal makes weekly announcements reminding students of the academic performance pressure that is placed on the students, and how it effects the way people view the school as a whole. I have witnessed these announcements with my own ears. My kids have taken more sick days this year than in any other previous year due to the stress they feel everyday at Trickum Middle School. One of my kids has even thrown up before taking CRCT or ITBS tests because the Principal has the student's believing that missing a day of testing would result in a mark on their permanent record and a detention.

If this school does not soon change it's leadership, we will see this school fail. I have 35 years of experience with this school and it's district. My family was around for the opening of Parkview High School and Trickum Middle School. I can say with absolute confidence that my observations are accurate and accompanied by careful reflection. It is time for the county to step in and give leadership to people like Ms. Thomas, who is so connected with the school that she can name every student there. She is at every school performance, she arrives at games; she is among the first people there and is usually the last person out. She greets people and students in the hallway, and is visible on every floor at some point in the day. I'd like to see my school survive. A change in leadership is the answer here.

My son was emotionally abused at Trickum Middle School,because I disagreed with the teachers.Parents be aware.

Our daughter was bullied at Trickum. Administration refused to help. We have heard identical stories from about TEN other parents. Beware!
