Open Quote My child has been at Walnut Grove Elementary School since kindergarten and is now in the 5th grade. My overall rating is very, very good for this school. I could not have said that when he was in kindergarten but the principal then is no longer at this school and things have changed drastically under the new leadership. I do believe having the right administrators in place makes all the difference as the attitude of the leadership rubs off on everyone else.

My son has thrived at WGES throughout his time there and has grown exponentially as a student and as a good citizen. He's been given many opportunities through the school to be a leader, to be a part of various clubs, to join in with others for community service projects and overall, has had a very successful run there.

The vast majority of the teachers and staff that he has been in contact with over the years have been fabulous. There will always be exceptions, and we had ours, but even with that said, I still would recommend Walnut Grove without hesitation. The administration was very attentive and helpful when we did have our "issue" and did everything possible to resolve it so that my son could continue his success at the school.

As a parent, I am very pleased with the level of education my son has received at Walnut Grove. I appreciate the general attentiveness to his academic success as well as the overall nurturing of his character and principles. I am very thankful for this school, it's staff and the experience we have had at WGES. Close Quote

Open Quote I have two children at Walnut Grove Elementary School. They both started in the first grade. The oldest is now in 4th grade and the youngest in 3rd. Our experience has been amazing! Super teachers who care a great deal about our children. Great administrators who go out of their way to be a part of the children's daily activities. I am active with the PTA and volunteer in the classroom so that I can remain a part of my child's life, even when I'm not able to be there every day. I trust these teachers and administrators with my children and their education. Close Quote

Open Quote There is a first grade teacher who is a bully. I have tried to discuss the issues with her, but she refuses to respond to my emails. I also emailed and called the principal and she also refused to respond. Bullying starts at the top. One cannot expect the students to not bully when a first grade teacher bullies her students and the principal bullies her staff. It is sad that this teacher has chronic absenteeism, but when she IS at school, she bullies the students in her class. Parents beware of this school, be warned of the principal, and be careful of which first grade teacher your child gets. Close Quote

Open Quote There is one first grade teacher who is a legend in her own mind. She states on her Facebook page that she has a degree in Education, (both a B.S. and M.Ed.), however, she has been writing letters giving her "medical" advice and opinions about students, their parents, and her co-workers. These letters are not only unprofessional, but also unethical. She has no medical education and/or training therefore, she has absolutely no right to give "her" medical advice. The PSC, along with school officials need to do a thorough investigation of her and the school administration for allowing this teacher to continue practicing her brand of medicine without a license. This is the worst school in Gwinnett County. The staff is shallow, superficial, snobby, and most importantly, unprofessional. Close Quote

Open Quote Three of the first grade teachers in this school stand out in the hall and talk about their students and their parents in unflattering fashion. Calls to the administraation were ignored. The administration and faculty of this school are the most unprofessional in Gwinnett County. Two of these three teachers also have grammatical errors on their Facebook home pages. One even has the audacity to state that she is a first grade teacher in Gwinnett County! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
