Summary:

River Trail Middle School is a high-performing public middle school in Duluth, Georgia, serving 1,088 students in grades 6-8 and part of the Fulton County School District, which is ranked 57th out of 203 districts in the state.

River Trail Middle School consistently outperforms the Fulton County and Georgia state averages in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school ranked 9th out of 588 Georgia middle schools and received a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. For example, 96.6% of River Trail students were proficient or better in Algebra I, compared to 57.4% in Fulton County and 44% statewide. Additionally, River Trail has a relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher spending per student than the state average.

While River Trail Middle School outperforms nearby schools in the Fulton County district, such as Webb Bridge Middle School and Taylor Road Middle School, the performance gap narrows when compared to schools in the Forsyth County district, such as Riverwatch Middle School and South Forsyth Middle School, which also demonstrate strong academic results. The relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at River Trail Middle School suggests that the school serves a more affluent student population compared to some nearby schools in the Gwinnett County district.

Open Quote Good school but they seem to care about the social aspect of school only academics. No dances and kids aren’t allowed to set with other students outside their during lunch, and recess I once a week. Academics are important but social skills are equally important. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is in need of diversity from Leadership to Educators. They need to have a strong zero tolerance for bullying and they do not. In a time where students have taken their life for being mistreated/bullied all schools should consider having a plan of action to remove such behaviors. Educators in this school can be impatient and speak disrespectfully to students in front their peers and are often time confrontational with students who cause no issues. They need to have respect from Leaders and Teachers to ALL students. There needs to be a priotiy place on the sense of urgency when bullying, harassing or issues students need discipline occur. While all Teachers need to have the ability to educate this school appears to employ and seek those that are not of a minority background or race. A STRONG change needs to be inserted and investigated into these matters for River Trail Middle School because some of their actions are news worthy Close Quote

Open Quote River Trail Middle School does not care about the students or Parents that have concerns. The area superintendent, Moran, has not addressed our concerns that were sent to her over a week ago. The administration does not follow the policies or the procedures in the Fulton County Code of Conduct manual. If your child has any type of disability, ADD, Auditory processing issues, etc. do not send your child to this school even with an IEP they do not receive the proper services. If your child needs minor, and I mean minor, services they do not provide them. You will be exhausted fighting for your child to get an education if they need any services. I have had two kids attend this school and one of my kids needs minor services while the other did not need any and I was and still am very disappointed with this school. If I had to do it all over again I will take more time talking with the parents at the school during car pool than looking at test scores via the Internet. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
