Lake Windward Elementary School

Summary:

Lake Windward Elementary School is a highly-regarded public elementary school in Alpharetta, Georgia, serving 707 students from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. As part of the Fulton County School District, which is ranked 57th out of 203 districts in Georgia, Lake Windward consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state.

Lake Windward Elementary consistently ranks between 5th and 23rd out of over 1,200 Georgia elementary schools, and in the 2023-2024 school year, it was ranked 15th and received a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. Its students significantly outperform their peers in Fulton County and the state of Georgia on the Milestones Assessment, with 87.7% of 5th-grade students proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 59.6% in Fulton County and 48.2% statewide. Additionally, the school has a low student-teacher ratio of 12.8 students per teacher, suggesting a more personalized learning environment.

While Lake Windward Elementary is the highest-performing school in the immediate area, several other nearby schools, such as Creek View Elementary and Wilson Creek Elementary, also rank among the top elementary schools in Georgia and have strong academic results. However, the significant disparities in academic performance between Lake Windward Elementary and the surrounding schools, as well as the low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, may raise questions about equity and access to high-quality education for all students in the region.

Open Quote not for black kids, it depends heavily on what teacher you get, teachers are quick to label your kid instead of working with them and the story seems to always change which has created a lack of trust and suspicion, they test them like teenagers but refuse to send reference materials home so the kids can practice and so the parents can know what they are working on Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
