Open Quote Having a child go through middle school is hard, especially during Covid hitting during 6th grade. My child is completing the 8th grade year at SFMS and while I don't have many complaints about the education received during trying times, I am very disappointed that the new principal elected to do nothing for the 8th grade to celebrate their last year in Middle School.

Instead of a dance, an after school carnival was offered. No field trip, no honor roll acknowledgement. Nothing special for kids that spent all 3 years defined by covid. What an absolute let down and shows her lack of engagement with those she elected to lead and inspire.

As far as the education received, our time had covid for 1/2 the time. The last principal seemed more engaged and present for parents and kids. My child is a self motivator and no work struggles were felt, so I can't speak for kids with any struggles. I don't feel many of the teachers tried to connect with the kids, and what they taught my child understood. The homework was balanced. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
