Summary:

McIntosh High School is a public high school located in Peachtree City, Georgia, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,695 students. The school is part of the Fayette County School District, which is ranked 9th out of 203 districts in Georgia and is rated 5 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

McIntosh High School consistently outperforms the Fayette County and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessments, with 78.5% of students proficient or better in American Literature and Composition, compared to 66.1% in Fayette County and 42% statewide. The school also maintains a high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 90.6% to 93.9% over the past 5 years, significantly higher than the state average. However, it is outperformed by some other top-ranked schools in the district, such as Starrs Mill High School and Whitewater High School, which have similar demographics but slightly higher academic performance and graduation rates.

The relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at McIntosh High School, ranging from 11.01% to 12.09% over the past 3 years, suggests that the school serves a more affluent student population compared to the surrounding schools. While McIntosh High School is a highly successful and well-regarded public high school, there may be opportunities to further improve its academic performance, particularly in areas where it is outperformed by other top-ranked schools in the Fayette County district.

Open Quote Nearly all of my teachers have been excellent, communicating the information well, challenging us intellectually and creatively, and helping us to think outside the box. However, most of my experience is with the gifted teachers. Also, the extra curriculars are great, sports and otherwise! Fine arts are excellent, too. If you're looking for a free (besides taxes) school, McIntosh is pretty much as good as it's gonna get in Georgia. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
