Holly Springs Elementary School

Summary:

Holly Springs Elementary School is a public elementary school in Douglasville, Georgia, serving 567 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Douglas County school district.

Holly Springs Elementary consistently outperforms the Douglas County and Georgia state averages on the Milestones Assessment, with 5th-grade proficiency rates of 67.7% in ELA, 42.4% in Math, and 55.6% in Science, compared to the district averages of 42.5%, 32.2%, and 33.7%, respectively. The school has maintained a strong statewide ranking, placing in the top 20% of Georgia elementary schools, and has a relatively low student-teacher ratio ranging from 13.9 to 15.1 over the past three years. Additionally, the school's spending per student has increased from $8,313 in 2016-2017 to $9,758 in 2018-2019, indicating a commitment to investing in student education.

While Holly Springs Elementary is a high-performing school, several nearby schools, such as Eastside Elementary, Bright Star Elementary, and Chapel Hill Elementary, have significantly lower academic proficiency rates and statewide rankings. This highlights the potential for Holly Springs to serve as a model for improving educational outcomes in the broader Douglas County school district, particularly given the school's consistent academic success and the socioeconomic challenges faced by a significant portion of its student population.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
