Stewart Middle School

Summary:

Stewart Middle School is a public middle school located in Douglasville, Georgia, serving grades 6-8 with a student population of 554. The school is part of the Douglas County School District, which is ranked 116 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Stewart Middle School consistently underperforms compared to the Douglas County and Georgia state averages in Milestones Assessment test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in English Language Arts ranged from 27.2% to 32% at Stewart Middle School, compared to 34.7% to 42.6% for Douglas County and 39.8% to 44.7% for the state. The performance gap is even more pronounced in Mathematics, where Stewart Middle School's proficiency rates ranged from 12% to 27.3%, compared to 20.2% to 32.3% for Douglas County and 34.7% to 43.7% for the state. Additionally, Stewart Middle School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Georgia middle schools, ranking between 388 and 445 out of 542-588 schools over the past 10 years, and has maintained a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of this period, indicating it is among the lowest-performing schools in the state.

When comparing Stewart Middle School to other middle schools in the Douglas County and Paulding County districts, it becomes clear that Stewart is an outlier in terms of academic performance. For example, Chapel Hill Middle School and Mason Creek Middle School, both in the Douglas County district, consistently outperform Stewart Middle School by 10-20 percentage points or more in Milestones Assessment proficiency rates. Despite these performance differences, Stewart Middle School's per-student spending and student-teacher ratio are on par with the higher-performing nearby schools, suggesting that factors other than staffing levels may be contributing to the school's underperformance.

Open Quote My son goes to Stewart and he hates it, the kids are out of control and teachers and staffs really don't care. There main focus to me is the kids clothes and not there behavioral issues. Yes I know there not the students parent but if my child is in your care its the staff responsible to handle things..... This school needs a new make over starting from the top to the bottom. Its sad to see that a small school cant get under control.
Next year he will not attend Stewart :)!!!!!
If you are a parent and your wondering about this school "DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL" I know it's by the district, but if you can send your child somewhere else please do so. My niece went here two years ago and my sister hated it too, but since this was the only school at that time she had no other choice. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
