Open Quote We just wrapped up our 4th year at The Museum School. Here's what I love about the school. 1.) Small class sizes 2.) Frequent Expeditions (Field Trips) 3.) Adequate number of Teachers/ Faculty (two teachers per class room) 4.) Beautiful campus located in a nice quiet neighborhood, big classrooms with lots of natural light. Overall the school is very clean and updated. 5.) fantastic leadership and mostly wonderful teachers. I'll admit, some have dropped the ball along the way, but overall we've been pretty happy with our teachers. It's like like that with any school. We have to do our part at parents to fill that gap. 6.) creative curriculum which caters to many different learning styles. Here's what I don't care for, and perhaps it's the neighborhood culture (Decatur/Avondale Estates) and not the school, but we feel the social scene at the school could use a big overhaul. Sadly, in our experience, the play date invites, birthday party invites and any social engagement invites are pretty infrequent. We felt excluded at first, and perhaps we just didn't "fit in" Then I started having conversations with other parents who feel the exact same way. our last school was the complete opposite with a very robust social life for both parents and kids. It was very inclusive. This is very different, as we've extended many invites to kids and we get nothing, not even an RSVP. It's really strange. We recently got a birthday party invite and the entire Kindergarten class was invited and only two of us from the class showed up. This happened one another time too. That's just odd to me. This is nothing like our old school. it just seems very anti social, and it really shows in some of the kid's behavior. There are some great kids at TMS and there are really mean and angry kids at the school, thus bullying is a big problem. We've heard cases of physical, but mostly verbal and downright cruel behavior. Most of this takes place on the playground where the mean kids get away with their bad behavior. I love the school in so many ways, but we don't feel like we are apart of a community, and I do feel like my kids are missing out socially. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
