Dunwoody Elementary School

My experience at Dunwoody Elementary is not pleasant. First of all, people who is not Caucasian moved from bigger city will notice that right a way. This school is very bias to Caucasian Families. Specially Registrar and reception personnel. Lady who works there is the most rude and arrogant person I have ever seen!!!! She suppose to help parents and students for everyone's convenience. But this lady is yelling parents and giving instructions what to do and pointing on the face and more...simply she is not professional receptionist nor registrar. Of course some parents do not follow procedure or guide line but parents are not work there and not many parents knows the rules and regulations like receptionist do. This lady is there to help them to guide and help what parents need instead of shook her head and yelling and pointing fingers and giving directions to parents in front of others. sometimes it could be very embarrassed. We have been many other schools and they were professional and treat others with respect. I can't believe that such a nice area with above than average grade public school receptionist registrar doesn't know how to respect families? I also noticed that she only look down and yelling certain race families. She think she is the boss and very ignorant and arrogant plus way too much bias. Also, there are minimal academical issues such as lack of communication channels between school and parents and no advance classes for students such as separate gifted classes.

This is a great school. Very diverse and open for everybody. My daughter have been there for past two years. She started with 'English as second language' lessons and after year and a half was certified for gifted program (and her English is fluent now). Great thanks to Mrs. Abamonte, she is a very caring and professional teacher.

My husband and I were so excited for our child to join the Dunwoody family however quickly found out that African American children and not treated the same as their counterparts. During registration, there was one other African American family and myself, in which their registration was denied. I called daily to ensure my child's acceptance and was never answer. My daughter eventually started school and soon after, our address was asked to be verified by Mrs. Kirtdoll. She went as far as to contact the names and number of our contact log for verification, which is totally unethical. Mrs. Kirtdoll & staff does not support African Americans attending Dunwoody and they will do everything in their power to make your life a living nightmare. Eventually, Ms. Menon, the assistant principal removed my innocent daughter from her learning environment and refused to allow her to return to class. Ms. Menon contacted me to pick up my child because they had withdrew her, needless to say I was appalled. Dunwoody Elementary is a great school, but their treatment of African Americans are extremely hurtful and shameful.

Great school, with caring teacher and a very active PTA base. STEM certifaction was a huge step forward.

My daughter was distinguished for GA MILES TEST PERFORMANCE. She loves the school and teachers. Also music and arts are encourage. My daughter is a Dunwoody singer and plays violin. I really admire her music teachers.

I love Dunwoody Elementary School on Womack Road in the heart of Dunwoody. My oldest child went to Vanderlyn Elementary (just one block over), and my younger two have been at Dunwoody Elementary for the past two years. The building is brand-new and state-of-the-art. The principal and assistant principals are very impressive. (Assistant Principal Jennifer Sanders used to be assistant principal at Vanderlyn.) Many teachers at Dunwoody Elementary School came over from Vanderlyn Elementary and Austin Elementary, and the school is populated by families who came over from Vanderlyn, Austin and Chesnut. The TAG teachers (called "Discovery" in Dekalb County) are fantastic. My seven-year-old has a wonderful teacher (who came over from Vanderlyn), and my ten-year-old has very good teachers, too (two came over from Vanderlyn, one came over from Austin, and one is new to teaching and great). Students at Dunwoody Elementary get to choose Orchestra, Band or General Music, and one of my children is in her second year of violin there. Children can also take French, Spanish, and advanced Art classes after school, as well as choose from a number of academic and extracurricular clubs. Great school. I expect it to be one of best in the area. Definitely worth a look if you are considering coming to Dunwoody!
