Open Quote I am both a parent and alumni of HHS. I think the school has become a true community school with the recent downsizing. I think that academics are stressed and it is up to the student to reach up and grasp what is put before them. The school has taken some unfair knocks in the past because the county school system is rated so highly in the state of Georgia, and several of the high schools have a much higher than average socio-economic student base than Harlem. Considering this, when I look at the rating on this site of #87 out of 399 in the state, that puts HHS in the top 22%. As Columbia County's oldest school at 141 years, there are many graduates that have become very successful in their respective vocations. I am proud to be an alum and to live in the city of Harlem. If parents are looking for a true community elementary, middle, and high school in a small town setting, we have the answer.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
