CA Gray Junior High School

Summary:

CA Gray Junior High School is a public secondary school serving grades 8-9 in Moultrie, Georgia, with a total enrollment of 1,406 students. The school is part of the Colquitt County School District, which is ranked 113 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 14.9 to 15 students per teacher, its academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates on the Milestones Assessments, has been inconsistent and significantly below the state averages, particularly in core subjects like English Language Arts (33.7%) and Mathematics (36.7%) for 8th grade. Additionally, the school has a very high percentage of students (85.21%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. The school's spending per student has been relatively consistent, ranging from $8,335 to $8,605, which is slightly higher than the state average.

The combination of lower-than-average test scores, a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, and inconsistent academic performance indicates that CA Gray Junior High School may face challenges in addressing the unique needs and barriers faced by its student population. The school's resource allocation and instructional strategies may need to be evaluated to better support student learning and improve academic outcomes.

Open Quote I moved to a different county because of rumors of this being a bad school. I didn't like the that county's school, so I home schooled. That didn't work. I tried C.A. Gray. My child and I are glad that we did. She's excelling and taking classes to advance her for college! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
