Lindley Middle School

Summary:

Lindley Middle School is a public middle school located in Mableton, Georgia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 1,096 students. The school is part of the Cobb County School District, which is ranked 52 out of 203 school districts in Georgia and is rated 4 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Despite being part of a relatively high-performing district, Lindley Middle School has consistently underperformed compared to the Cobb County and Georgia state averages in most subject areas and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 25.9% of 6th graders, 21.3% of 7th graders, and 41.2% of 8th graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the Cobb County averages of 53.7%, 46.9%, and 55.1%, respectively. The school's performance in mathematics is also significantly lower than the district and state averages. Additionally, Lindley Middle School has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 77.59% to 82.3% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages.

When comparing Lindley Middle School to other middle schools in the Cobb County district, it is clear that Lindley is underperforming. Schools like Cooper Middle School, Campbell Middle School, and Griffin Middle School all have significantly higher test scores, lower free and reduced lunch rates, and better student-teacher ratios than Lindley. This suggests that Lindley Middle School is facing persistent challenges in improving student outcomes, which may be related to the high percentage of economically disadvantaged students and the relatively lower spending per student at the school.

Open Quote i was doing very well in other schools before i got transferred to this one. the teachers are super unprofessional, they allow harassment and bullying in their class, and there are fights everyday. the students and teachers there are so toxic that i became depressed. i begged my mum not to put me here another year, but we are a low income family and i had no choice. if you have the money, please don't let your child attend here. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
