Open Quote We moved from overseas to the US in 2017 and my twins started MVE school. They love the school and their teachers. The only thing I don't like is school is asking for donations frequently. I believe this is the way things work in the US. Close Quote

Open Quote I feel that Mountain View is very traditional and worksheet-y. They are very focused on test scores and my 3rd grade child seems to bring home mountains of worksheets (poor, lower thinking order quality of worksheets) and test prep activities which do not engage her. She says she hates school and never tells me anything positive about her day.

I have also not been impressed with the communication and attitude of the principal and guidance department. When I explained how unhappy my child was in her class and relating to her teacher and peers, I was basically told "Oh, sorry, maybe next year will be better" and recommended to seek outside counseling (for my extremely well adjusted child) to help her feel better about school. Hm, how about being more child centered and creating a more caring environment rather than me shelling out money for counseling so my child can cope with your school?

We are leaving Mountain View for private school next year since we failed to get into Murdock Elementary in the school choice lottery. My older three went to Murdock and had only positive feelings toward school and learning. I wish we hadn't moved into Mountain View school district. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
