Mableton Elementary School

Summary:

Mableton Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 898 students in grades PK-5 in Mableton, Georgia, which is part of the Cobb County School District. However, the school has consistently underperformed compared to district and state averages on standardized tests, ranking in the bottom half of Georgia elementary schools for several years.

Mableton Elementary has a very high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 77.05% to 81.29% over the past few years, significantly higher than the district and state averages. This indicates a high-poverty student population, which likely contributes to the school's academic challenges. When compared to other nearby high-poverty schools like Austell Elementary and Clarkdale Elementary, Mableton Elementary still lags behind in academic performance, suggesting that factors beyond just socioeconomic status may be at play.

Additionally, Mableton Elementary spends between $9,399 and $10,205 per student, which is lower than the spending levels of many of the nearby schools in the Cobb County district. This potential resource constraint may also be a contributing factor to the school's academic challenges, as adequate funding and resources are crucial for supporting student learning, especially in high-poverty schools.

Open Quote Administration is not together and teachers are afraid of principal. There's a click in the school and if you don't kiss their butts you are out! Their STEAM program is just for show. They love putting on a show for the district even though concepts have not been taught. Curriculum is not rigorous nor challenging. Behavior is off the chain. Students cuss out loud and tell sexual jokes. Their best team is the worst ever. What the principal sells is not what she delivers. Sad Close Quote

Open Quote STEM certified, Title I school with very passionate teachers. This is my son's third year at Mableton and we debated between here and sending him to a private school. The first year, we got a new teacher who had trouble managing her class. However, the administration was very on top of getting our son paired with a good teacher as soon as we raised concerns. Principal Cain runs a tight ship and we noticed after a few months that we did not see that teacher again. I'm really proud of the progress Mableton has made since we've been there and highly recommend it to any other families who are new to the area. They are implementing a spanish immersion program for kindergartners who encourage bilingual children. My youngest son just started and already knows spanish songs after just a few days. My only criticism is that the school lunch could be healthier, but that's a county issue and not the fault of the school. Breaded chicken, burgers or pizza everyday is not for us. Close Quote

Open Quote Mableton Elementary is a hiding gem. What most people don't know is that Mableton has a lot academic programs. I've listed a few that my son participated in.

1. STARBASE Program - a hand-on curriculum that emphasizes the application of STEM
2. Reading Club
3. Robotics
4. Lego building
5. Talent and Development
6. Honor Chorus...Just to name a few...

The teachers are very engaging and work really hard for your child and the school's success. I was truly impress with my son's progress at Mableton and was very happy with his Milestone results.

I would highly recommend you don't judge this school on the reviews, you have to take a tour and learn for yourself. You will not be disappointed!!!

Great teachers produce great students. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
