Temple High School

Summary:

Temple High School is a public high school located in Temple, Georgia, serving 746 students in grades 9-12. It is part of the Carroll County School District, which is ranked 60 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Temple High School has consistently high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 90.9% to 97.4% over the past 5 years, which is higher than the state average and on par with or better than the nearby schools. However, the school's test scores on the Milestones Assessments are generally lower than the Carroll County and Georgia state averages across subjects like American Literature, Algebra I, Biology, and US History. Additionally, Temple High School has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 56.63% to 61.93% over the past 3 years, which is higher than the nearby schools like Central High (48.05%), Villa Rica High (55.45%), and Paulding County High (47.83%).

While Temple High School has maintained a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years, its statewide ranking has declined from 132 out of 438 Georgia high schools in 2018-2019 to 251 out of 458 in 2023-2024, suggesting the school may be struggling to keep pace with improvements at other high schools in the state. The combination of lower test scores and higher free/reduced lunch rates at Temple High School indicates there may be equity issues that need to be addressed, such as ensuring adequate resources and support for economically disadvantaged students. However, the school's high graduation rates are a positive indicator of its ability to support students in completing their high school education.

Open Quote The administration, faculty and staff really have the best interest of the students and community at heart and work as if they are a family with the students being a part of that family. They work extremely hard and go beyond the "call of duty" by working at extracurricular activities like attending functions, helping with community outreach programs, gate duty at sporting events, etc.
The school has a high graduation rate, offers many AP courses and has higher than average test scores when compared to the State and at the top for our County and surrounding counties. I, my wife and all three of our children have attended THS our entire school career and we feel we have all received a great education that prepared us to do anything we would like to pursue. Open Quote I have one daughter that graduated from Temple High and another who is currently attending. Both have been challenged academically and participate in extracurricular activities. AP and dual enrollment courses are offered onsite. Arts and athletic programs are competitive and nurture growth. Close Quote

Open Quote Temple High School serves as the hub of the Temple Community. As a former graduate of Temple High School I can speak to the fantastic programs and education that were provided to me from the school. I am excited to see the many new improvements to the facilities over the past few years, including a turf football field and stadium renovations, new gym, and new athletic fields (baseball, softball, tennis courts on the campus.) About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
