Camden Middle School's academic performance is generally on par with or slightly below the Camden County and Georgia state averages, but the school stands out in certain subject areas. Its English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rates are consistently higher than the state average, with 6th and 8th-grade students outperforming the county average as well. In mathematics, the school's 8th-grade proficiency rates are significantly higher than the state average, though 6th and 7th-grade performance is closer to the county average. Additionally, Camden Middle School's 8th-grade proficiency rates in science and social studies are higher than the state average, though still slightly below the county average.

Interestingly, the nearby Saint Marys Middle School, which is also part of the Camden County School District, has consistently outperformed Camden Middle School in most subject areas and has a higher statewide ranking. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Camden Middle School to learn from the practices and strategies employed by its higher-performing counterpart. Additionally, Camden Middle School has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, which may contribute to the school's academic performance, and it could be valuable to explore strategies to address any potential barriers faced by these students.

Open Quote Poor school, poor teaching. Camden needs to think about hiring teachers who at least know how to speak proper English. Last time I spoke with my daughter's teachers, I was absolutely horrified at the improper use of basic grammar skills. Camden county should be embarrassed by their lack of intelligent staff at Camden middle school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
