Springdale Elementary School

Summary:

Springdale Elementary School is a public elementary school in Macon, Georgia, serving 562 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Bibb County School District. Despite the district's overall low ranking, Springdale stands out as a high-performing school, consistently outpacing state and district averages in academic assessments.

Springdale Elementary boasts strong academic performance, with its 5th-grade students scoring 56.7% proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 29.8% for Bibb County and 48.2% for Georgia. The school has maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade, ranking in the top 30% of Georgia elementary schools. Additionally, Springdale has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.6 to 14.7 over the past three years, and higher per-student spending compared to the state average.

While Springdale's academic success is noteworthy, the school faces socioeconomic challenges, with a 100% free and reduced-price lunch rate. Interestingly, Springdale outperforms many of the nearby schools in the Bibb County district, such as Williams Elementary School and Hartley Elementary School, which rank in the bottom 5% of Georgia elementary schools. Springdale's consistent performance suggests the potential for continued improvement, particularly in closing the achievement gap between its students and the state averages in some subject areas.

Open Quote I couldn't be happier! My little boy just finished Kindergarten & the care these teachers have is amazing! Our teacher was awesome & always strives to reach above & beyond. For instance, the minimum requirement to enter first grade was to learn 75 sight words... however, she made it a goal for every child to finish with mastering 115! And we did it! I won't lie, it wasn't easy & all three of us worked hard to achieve that goal. She was super communicative in how my little boy was doing, where he was, what we needed to work on, etc. This is only the tip of the iceberg, I could write a book on how fabulous this year has been for us. Open Quote Both the teachers and school staffs are rude and keeping lying to the parents. They do not care about the students' feeling, they only care about how they can make themselves stay out of any students' problems. And the teacher keep yelling at the students. If the teacher is not satisfied with the parents, they will revenge on your kids at once. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
