Red Top Middle School

Summary:

Red Top Middle School is a public middle school located in Emerson, Georgia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 565 students. The school is part of the Bartow County School District, which is ranked 74 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Red Top Middle School has consistently underperformed compared to the Bartow County and Georgia state averages in most subject areas and grade levels, the school's performance in Algebra I is a bright spot, with a proficiency rate of 80% in 2023-2024, significantly higher than the Bartow County (39.5%) and Georgia (44%) averages. However, the school's high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 67.4% to 69.56% over the past few years, suggests that it may face socioeconomic challenges that could impact student learning and performance.

When compared to nearby schools, Woodland Middle School at Euharlee and Cass Middle School, both within the Bartow County School District, generally outperform Red Top Middle School in terms of test scores and overall school rankings. Additionally, schools in the Cobb County School District, such as Lost Mountain Middle School, Durham Middle School, and Barber Middle School, consistently outperform Red Top Middle School and the Bartow County average in most subject areas and grade levels.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
