Open Quote Teachers are not as helpful as they seem....Going through the motions and doesn't know how to handle and work with children below grade level. Most,(not all) don't know how to communicate with parents. Many parents tell me that teachers don't reach out to them about their child's struggles and i can agree on that. I'm writing a long letter to the Barrow County Superintendent, Dr. Chris McMichael, about my terrible experiences with KES. I also encourage any other parent having issues with KES to write to the superintendent as well. I'ts important that parents are confident about leaving their child in the hands of teachers who genuinely cares about teaching students of all race, (weather they are behind in grade level or not). And know how to find REAL solutions for children to make progress. Average Grade levels for KES may be impressive, however, they have no REAL solutions on how to HELP kids who are struggling and in need of extra support. Yes, there's the EIP, but what happens when teachers aren't communicating with parents, or give parents little to no info about there child's academic progress?? I guess the child is destined to fail from lack of support and communication. And not making sure parents are on the same page with what's being taught at school. Close Quote

Open Quote Unfortunately we've only been at Kennedy Elementary for two years. I wish my daughters entire elementary experience had of been here. The biggest win for this school is the principal. He goes above and beyond what his job description entails and shows a genuine interest in every kid. The fact that when my child gets out of my car in the morning he greets her by name is a HUGE plus as I've seen him do this with every child who walks down the hall. The school often holds informative meetings for parents, at least two a month. They want parents to be involved and they do everything in their power to allow them to. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
