Mountain Education High School

Summary:

Mountain Education High School is a public high school located in Cleveland, Georgia, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 2,581 students. The school is part of the State Specialty Schools I- Mountain Education High School district, which is ranked 86 out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite being part of the district, Mountain Education High School has consistently low four-year graduation rates, ranging from 12.4% to 15.0% over the past five years. This is significantly lower than the nearby schools, such as Towns County High School (90.7%), Lumpkin County High School (98.6%), and Habersham Central High School (98.6%). Additionally, the school's performance on the Milestones Assessments is generally below the state average across all subject areas and grade levels.

The relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Mountain Education High School, ranging from 1.26% to 30.22% over the past three years, may be a contributing factor to the school's lower performance. The school's spending per student has also been lower than some of the nearby schools, which may impact the resources available to support student success. To address these challenges, the school and district may need to explore strategies for improving academic performance, supporting student success, and ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.

Open Quote My 2 sons, my nephew, and my daughter-in-law all graduated from MEC. It is a fantastic alternative to traditional school. One son graduated more than a full year early. I know that they have had dozens of students graduate with both a high school diploma and an AA from local colleges. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
