Lakeview Academy

Summary:

Lakeview Academy is an elementary school serving grades 3-5 in Milledgeville, Georgia, with 650 students. It is part of the Baldwin County school district, which is ranked 172 out of 203 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lakeview Academy faces significant challenges, including low test scores, high poverty rates, and resource constraints. The school's test scores on the Georgia Milestones assessments are significantly below the state averages across all grade levels and subject areas, with only 28.3% of 3rd graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 38.4%. Lakeview Academy also has an extremely high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 89.22% to 92.78% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages. Additionally, the school's spending per student has been relatively low, at $8,905 in 2018-2019, compared to the nearby Midway Hills Academy ($10,025) and Lakeview Primary schools.

While the challenges facing Lakeview Academy are comparable to other schools in the Baldwin County district, the school's performance lags behind schools in other nearby districts, such as Wilkinson County Primary School and Putnam County Elementary School. This suggests that factors beyond just poverty and district-level issues may be contributing to the low performance at Lakeview Academy, and addressing the underlying causes will require a multifaceted approach that goes beyond just increasing funding.

Open Quote This school unfortunately is one of the lowest rating schools there are and the staff clearly does not have a handle on things. In my opinion, there are various other schools that offer much better services and my child will never go back here. My child never got what they needed and information was handled poorly. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
