Open Quote We have a highly experienced number of teachers with great support staff. I believe our new administrator along side with our Assistant Principal will make a world of difference this year. Community involvement has been a great part of our success. Close Quote

Open Quote The only reason this school has gone down is the district decided to redraw the boundaries and bus kids in from lower socioeconomic areas to help promote diversity. This has lowered all the grades in the school and the amount of free lunch or reduced price has gone up. They failed to realize if you bus kids in from deltona they might not be on time to school. After I drop off my kids I see all the Deltona kids coming into school late as the bus is almost always late. Your racial diversity tactic is only harming the kids by making them late everyday, those kids walk in the room with the free breakfast and so all the kids think, that is the poor kid. Ever watch a kid with a big backpack, water bottle and a tray full of food try to walk across campus in a timely fashion, not going to happen. Close Quote

Open Quote Freedom Elementary is a wonderful school for high achievers with involved parents. There are many award ceremonies and functions for said children and the school has a high district rating. The way they are able to achieve such high ratings is through segregation. They have a comparatively small number of low income and minority students and send children with special needs to separate schools. They accommodate those with only minor impairments such as ADD/ADHD and keep them all not only in a separate classroom, but often do not include them in school functions. Do to a 2011 rezoning designed to de-segregate, the statistics may have changed, but the underlying problem is still present as is the discrimination and segregation of those with special needs. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
