Forest Grove Middle School

Summary:

Forest Grove Middle School is a public middle school located in Fort Pierce, Florida, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 871 students. The school has a diverse student population, with 39.61% African American, 39.27% Hispanic, and 15.84% White students.

Despite consistently outperforming the St. Lucie School District and the state of Florida in several key test score metrics, such as 86% proficiency in EOC/Algebra 1 and 100% proficiency in EOC/Geometry, Forest Grove Middle School has a significantly higher chronic absenteeism rate of 59.5% compared to nearby schools like Southport Middle School (39.0%) and Southern Oaks Middle School (40.4%). Additionally, the school has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, at 79.22%, which is significantly higher than the nearby schools.

While Forest Grove Middle School's strong performance in certain academic areas is noteworthy, the school's consistently low statewide ranking, despite these achievements, suggests that it may be facing unique challenges that are not reflected in the test scores alone. Further investigation into the school's resources, support systems, and community engagement could provide valuable insights into addressing the underlying factors influencing student outcomes, such as the high rates of chronic absenteeism and free/reduced lunch.

Open Quote My personal experience at Forest Grove was a very memorable and I would highly recommend the school. I was apart of the MOA program which I felt was a GREAT experience as far as learning and enhancing creativity. I felt like the program was able to open my eyes to other career options and was very motivational. The teachers at Forest Grove really care about the children’s learning and progress and we’re very involved. I really have no complaints about the school and hope they continue to inspire their students as they did for me. Close Quote

Open Quote My son attended Forest Grove as part of the MOA Prep program. As a result, my son was surrounded by the best and brightest students in the county. The quality of instruction from the staff was excellent and challenging and the administration did a great job of inspiring learning while maintaining discipline and a safe environment. My son graduated at the top of his class and I credit his time at Forest Grove for setting the stage for excelling in a competitive environment where expectations are high and competition to be the best, not average, is the norm. The best middle school in the county. Close Quote

Open Quote I know this school is good for the children of Fort Pierce. The progress of this school during the past year is amazing. All the kids I mentor really enjoy coming to school. The parents of the kids I mentor state their kids come home and talk about what he is being taught. The kids say they feel the faculty supports and care for them. The teaching staff are very good at nurturing and developing the children's academic skills as well as social interaction and productive play. I personally love this school, keep it up, good teachers - you guys are so welcoming. There are kids who’ve had some ups and downs during the past year, but the Principal and his staff are working feverishly to improve the students’ performance. They faculty always tries to resolve your issues once they are informed. I’m very grateful for the rich learning environment at Forest Grove. Close Quote

Open Quote I have two daughters, one in 8th and one in 6th, who attend the Marine Oceanographic Preparatory Academy (MOA Prep) at Forest Grove Middle School. We turned down seats to other wait listed schools in the area to attend MOA Prep and could not be more pleased. My husband and I are extremely happy with the challenging coursework provided to our children through the MOA Prep Program, and love the small and engaging learning environment that they are a part of at Forest Grove. From the cheerful greetings of Mrs. Ingram in the front office, to the support of administration in curricular and extracurricular activities, to the arts and after school clubs like underwater robotics and environmental club, to the high level of academic coursework and caring staff, we happily give Forest Grove Middle 5 stars! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
