Goldsboro Elementary Magnet

Summary:

Goldsboro Elementary Magnet is a public elementary school in Sanford, Florida, serving 925 students in grades PK-5. As part of the Seminole County Public Schools district, which is ranked 7th out of 68 districts in Florida, Goldsboro Elementary Magnet stands out for its exceptional academic performance, diverse student population, and strong investment in resources.

One of the school's unique characteristics is its significantly higher percentage of Asian students (42.49%) compared to the surrounding schools and the state average. Goldsboro Elementary Magnet consistently outperforms the Seminole County and Florida state averages in standardized tests, with 75% of 3rd graders proficient or better in FAST English Language Arts, compared to 67% in Seminole County and 55% statewide. While the school has seen an increase in chronic absenteeism, reaching 21.1% in 2022-2023, it remains lower than nearby schools like Idyllwilde Elementary (32.8%) and Midway Elementary (27.4%).

Goldsboro Elementary Magnet's success can be attributed to its higher spending per student ($9,862 in 2022-2023) compared to the state average, indicating a greater investment in the school's resources and programs. The school's diverse student population, with significant representation of Asian, African American, and Hispanic students, is not as pronounced in the nearby schools, which tend to have higher concentrations of specific racial groups. Goldsboro Elementary Magnet's consistent academic performance and lower chronic absenteeism rates suggest the school has effective strategies, resources, and programs in place to support student learning and engagement.

Open Quote Unfortunately Goldsboro Elementary completely failed my 4th grade child. They may have a super funded science program, and money to throw around for carnivals, but they could not explain why my child who had an IEP for Reading, regressed on his i-ready scores from the beginning of the year to the end. The principal said, "Perhaps he didn't try his best on his iReady as unfortunately many students this time of year do not". That would be fine for an isolated test/quiz but not for an entire years progression/regression. This school and the teachers there completely failed my son. Then they said, we will stay on top of it for 5th grade. Thank you but no thank you, I'll return my children to their zoned school where I know they will get a balanced education. They may be a science and math magnet school, but this can not be at the expense of our children's literacy. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
