Open Quote My exceptionally bright son attended Pine View from grades 2 to 8 and I do not recommend the school to anyone. While the teachers are tickled to deal with students who need virtually no help, others are made to feel unworthy. There are no learning-impaired children in the school, but there were plenty who came home each day feeling deflated and stupid. I feel certain that while the kids were piled with hours of homework every single night starting in 2nd grade, the teachers had little to do once they bolted from their classrooms at the end of the day. I had to pay teachers to spend a few extra minutes after school to go over material that was inadequtely presented in class. The most interesting free programs were restricted to select students only, those that just needed teachers to get out of their way.

Pine View was a major factor in our decsion to leave Florida so our son could attend a private prep high school up north. He had to scramble to improve math and writing skills that proved inferior in that environment after 7 years at Pine View. I am grateful for the teachers in his new school that paid more attention to the student than to the clock and who gave my bright son the accalades he had always deserved.

While Pine View may regard itself an elite private school, it is not in so many ways: no sports, no music, no theatre, no fun, a hit-or-miss faculty, and snippy administrators. It may look good compared to some sorry Florida schools, but that is only because they hand-pick students from those who pass a qualifying exam. Those kids make the school look better than it deserves. Close Quote

Open Quote My son just started 2nd grade there this year and it has been exceptional. The gifted programs in Manatee can not compare at all to Sarasota or this school in
particular. We had to move to Sarasota to accomplish this but it was worth the move.
Our son loves the learning atmoshpere as he is now challenged and loves the independence even in second grade. He likes to eat outside most days and enjoys the kids. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
