McKeel Academy Of Technology

Summary:

McKeel Academy Of Technology is a public charter high school located in Lakeland, Florida, serving grades 7-12 with a total enrollment of 1,727 students. This school stands out as a high-performing institution, consistently ranking among the top high schools in the state and maintaining exceptional academic achievements.

McKeel Academy's students significantly outperform the Polk district and state averages in various standardized tests, including EOC (End-of-Course) exams and FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) assessments. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, McKeel Academy had 73% proficiency in Algebra 1 EOC, compared to 42% for the Polk district and 55% for the state. Additionally, the school has consistently maintained extremely high four-year graduation rates, reaching 100% in several recent school years, which is significantly higher than the graduation rates of nearby schools like Maynard A Traviss Technical Academy (10% in 2018-2019) and Bill Duncan Opportunity Center (0% in 2022-2023).

While McKeel Academy has a relatively diverse student population, the racial makeup of the school is still skewed towards a higher percentage of White students compared to the nearby schools. This raises questions about the school's efforts to ensure equitable access and inclusion for students from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, the stark contrast in chronic absenteeism rates between McKeel Academy and the nearby schools suggests that McKeel Academy is more successful in engaging and retaining its students, which could be due to factors such as a positive school culture, effective student support systems, and strong parental involvement.

Open Quote All Mckeel schools in general does not care about kids with any disabilities or ese needs they are a burden to them and make the child feel unwanted and honestly they don't want them there they preach all this kindness and no bullying but behind all that fake you have it actually happening by adults to students and there families they careless what you are going through. They will give you a hard time till you can't enjoy your child's school years and want you to dis enroll your child because it is too much work for them to accommodate them when they have the ability they just choose not to and yet they don't mind getting federal or state money etc to do what they desire with it which is unfair to the student and other schools who have to comply unlike them they consider themselves special and above the laws of school requirements. They will however choose there favorites by what you have to offer them. There also a sweep it under the rug type school and they like to play games and have each others backs to stab you in yours hypothetically speaking just know they don't care about your child especially if your a special needs /ese kid and how they get a way with it is beyond me and the system is so fixed and allows it to happen! This school deserves no stars ⭐️:( but they made me to do the review. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
