Cleveland Court Elementary School

Summary:

Cleveland Court Elementary School is a public elementary school in Lakeland, Florida, serving 393 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school stands out for its consistently strong academic performance, outpacing the surrounding Polk School District and the state of Florida in standardized tests.

Despite facing higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to nearby schools like Magnolia Montessori Academy and South McKeel Academy, Cleveland Court Elementary maintains impressive proficiency rates in English Language Arts (62% to 74%), Math (67% to 71%), and 5th-grade Science (62%). This suggests the school has effective teaching strategies and interventions in place to support student learning.

Another notable aspect of Cleveland Court Elementary is its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic and African American students compared to the surrounding schools. The school also serves a larger proportion of students from low-income families, with 42.75% to 50.84% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. While these factors present unique challenges, the school's strong academic performance indicates it is effectively addressing the needs of its diverse student body.

Open Quote My child has had a very good experience at Cleveland Court. The campus is older and open with a lovely central garden/library area, and doesn't look like a prison like all the newer schools do. The kindergarten classes have recess, but all the higher grades don't. (I wish they did). All grades have PE and art and music classes weekly. The school has a S.T.E.M. program and all the classrooms are well-equipped and have SMART boards. The teachers have a relatively low turnover rate and all the teachers I have had contact with have been eager, caring educators. Communication with the parents is very good, I have had teachers contact me the same day when I called with a concern about my child's grade in a class. I do feel like my child is spending too much time learning how to take tests sometimes. The PTO is active and inclusive. The street the school is adjacent to is very busy and can be scary, but the crossing guards are amazing and I feel safe letting my child cross the street when they are on guard. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
