Seminole High School

Summary:

Seminole High School is a public high school located in Seminole, Florida, serving grades 9-12 with a student population of 1,546. The school is part of the Pinellas District, which is ranked 23 out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 3 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Seminole High School has a predominantly white student population, with 76.65% of students identifying as white in the 2022-2023 school year. The school has consistently maintained high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 95.9% to 99.0% over the past five years, which is notably higher than the state and district averages. However, the school has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 15.9% in 2019-2020 to 36.7% in 2022-2023, a concerning trend that warrants further investigation. Academically, Seminole High School's test scores, particularly in Algebra 1, Geometry, and 10th grade English Language Arts, tend to lag behind the Pinellas District and Florida state averages.

Compared to nearby high schools, Seminole High School's performance is generally on par with or slightly below the nearby Pinellas Park High School and Dixie M. Hollins High School. However, it lags significantly behind the high-performing Osceola Fundamental High, which is located just 2.91 miles away and has consistently higher test scores and graduation rates. Additionally, the success of the charter school model at St. Petersburg Collegiate High School suggests that there may be opportunities for Seminole High School to learn from effective approaches to improving student outcomes.

Open Quote glad to be out of seminole! i have never encountered such rude staff in my life. they target, bully, and harass students, unjustifiably i might add. no one cares about your education unless it directly benefits themselves. in summary the entire staff (teachers, administrators, etc.) treat all students on a daily basis with extreme unwarranted disrespect causing the atmosphere to feel like a prison. this school is going down hill fast. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
