Chasco Middle School

Summary:

Chasco Middle School is a public middle school located in Port Richey, Florida, serving grades 6-8 with a student population of 688. The school is part of the Pasco District, which is ranked 42 out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 2 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger. Chasco Middle School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Florida middle schools over the past several years.

Chasco Middle School stands out for its significantly higher chronic absenteeism rate of 46.3%, compared to the Pasco district rate of 14.3% and the state average of 18.0%. The school's test scores are also consistently lower than the Pasco district and Florida state averages across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Chasco's proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Math, Algebra 1 EOC, Civics EOC, and Science were all well below the Pasco district and state averages. Additionally, Chasco Middle School has a significantly higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, at 84.01%, compared to the nearby schools, which range from 25.9% to 84.4%.

When comparing Chasco Middle School to the nearby schools in the Pasco district, such as Charles S. Rushe Middle School and Seven Springs Middle School, it is clear that Chasco is underperforming academically. These nearby schools have significantly higher test scores, lower chronic absenteeism rates, and lower percentages of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Despite Chasco Middle School's higher spending per student of $9,128, compared to the nearby schools' range of $7,047 to $9,759 per student, the school's academic performance remains significantly lower, suggesting that simply increasing funding may not be the sole solution to the school's challenges.

Open Quote I used to be a student at this school from 6th-8th and this is by far the worst school I've ever experienced from the students to the teachers, the overall teaching system, and overall quality of the school. Please be careful if you choose to enroll your child at this school. It's honestly a crime filled school and no one does anything about it. Children and parents are forced to keep quiet. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
