Pasco Middle School

Summary:

Pasco Middle School is a public middle school located in Dade City, Florida, serving 903 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Pasco District, which is ranked 42 out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 2 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Pasco Middle School faces several significant challenges compared to nearby schools. The school has a notably higher chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 32.2% to 34.5% in recent years, which is much higher than the 14.6% to 34.4% rates at other schools in the district. Additionally, Pasco Middle School's test scores are 10-20 percentage points lower than the nearby Pine View Middle School, Dr. John Long Middle School, and Thomas E. Weightman Middle School in subjects like English Language Arts and Math. The school also serves a higher percentage of students from low-income families, with 68.02% to 73.31% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, compared to 28.24% to 52.56% at the nearby schools.

Despite the higher spending per student at Pasco Middle School, ranging from $7,217 to $8,297 in recent years, the school's academic performance and attendance issues suggest that the additional resources may not be effectively addressing the underlying challenges. The school and the Pasco District should consider targeted interventions and strategies to improve student outcomes and address the significant disparities between Pasco Middle School and the higher-performing nearby schools.

Open Quote We are pleasantly surprise with the way this school deal with education and discipline. Our daughter attends the Pasco Middle Cambridge Programme (which just open this year), and the curriculum/homework load is very challenging yet teachers are extremely knowledgeable and understanding on how to deal with gifted children! They are strict about completing assignment and behavioral code, as well as rewarding when goals are met. Excellent choice for East Pasco students! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
