Del Prado Elementary School

Summary:

Del Prado Elementary School is a public elementary school in Boca Raton, Florida, serving 712 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, with strong academic performance that exceeds district and state averages.

Del Prado Elementary's proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Math, and Science are significantly higher than the surrounding Palm Beach School District and the state of Florida. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 78% of 3rd and 5th-grade students were proficient in ELA, compared to 54% and 55% at the district and state levels, respectively. The school also has a lower chronic absenteeism rate of 18.6% compared to nearby schools like Blue Lake Elementary (16.2%) and Verde K-8 (17.2%).

One notable difference between Del Prado Elementary and its neighboring schools is the demographic composition. Del Prado has a higher percentage of White students (55.76%) and a lower percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (26.26%) compared to schools like Quiet Waters Elementary (62.23% free/reduced-price lunch) and Coral Sunset Elementary (51.01% free/reduced-price lunch). This unique demographic profile may contribute to the school's strong academic performance, as research suggests that socioeconomic factors can impact student achievement.

Open Quote This school caters to gifted students. The emphasis is on FCAT and anything that contributes to higher scores is what is emphasized.Teachers are very concerned about how their class ranks and appears, rather than individual issues with regard to the child. If your child does not fit into this "box" then the school does NOTHING for your child. Any services your child needs will be cast aside while they tell you they are doing "monitoring". This monitoring does not result in anything except your child falling further and further behind. Administration is very tuned into "high status" parents and what you do for your livelihood. Wolves in sheep clothing is a term that applies to the admin staff at this school. Do not place your child here if not gifted. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
