Summary:

Apopka High is a public high school in Apopka, Florida, serving 3,507 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Orange County School District, which is ranked 31 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Apopka High has consistently high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 93.7% to 97.6% over the past five years, which are significantly above the state and district averages. However, the school has seen a steady increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 23.2% in 2019-2020 to 44.2% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the state and district averages. Apopka High's test scores are generally lower than the state and district averages, particularly in Algebra 1 and Geometry, but the school performs better in Biology 1 and US History. The school has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 41.19% to 56.49% over the past three years, which is higher than the state and district averages.

Compared to nearby high-performing schools like Lake Brantley High School, which is in the Seminole County School District, Apopka High's performance is generally lower. However, Apopka High has a more racially diverse student population, which may present both challenges and opportunities in terms of addressing the unique needs of different student groups. The school's relatively stronger performance in Biology 1 and US History suggests that it may have effective teaching and learning strategies in these subject areas that could be leveraged to improve performance in other areas.

Open Quote Horrible experience so far. Enrollment took them 6 weeks to process, schedule has been a disaster and the violence my daughter sees every day is horrific! She is being targeted and was vested by a group of kids. Teachers and resource officers don’t care and don’t do anything! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
