Lake Como School is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Orlando, Florida, with a student population of 885 that is predominantly White, Hispanic, and African American. The school is part of the Orange County School District, which is ranked 31 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lake Como School consistently outperforms the Orange County and Florida state averages in test scores across a variety of subjects and grade levels, with 71% of students proficient or better in EOC/Algebra 1 compared to 53% for Orange County and 55% for Florida. The school also has a lower chronic absenteeism rate than nearby schools like Ucp Downtown Charter and Conway Elementary. However, Lake Como School has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, at 53.9%, which is higher than the state average.

Despite these challenges, Lake Como School appears to be a strong-performing elementary school, spending $11,403 per student, which is higher than the state average. Open Quote I have two children at Lake Como and have been very happy. It is a small school, which I love, because it allows me to be very involved and know all the staff and faculty. The school is very welcoming, unlike some of the bigger schools. It has been an A rated school for the last 3 years. More and more neighborhood children are coming to this school as well, which will help keep it getting even better! The teachers are all very dedicated and have such a pride for the school. They have school tours in the spring, which really helped make our decision easy to enroll! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
