Kids Community College Riverview Southeast

Summary:

Kids Community College Riverview Southeast is an elementary public charter school located in Riverview, Florida, serving grades K-8 with a student population of 493. The school is part of the Hillsborough school district, which is ranked 45 out of 68 districts in Florida and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

One key concern at Kids Community College Riverview Southeast is the significantly higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the surrounding schools, such as Riverview Academy of Math and Science (14.7%) and Valrico Lake Advantage Academy (18.8%). In the 2022-2023 school year, the school had a 28.3% chronic absenteeism rate, which is much higher than the district and state averages. Additionally, the school's test scores are consistently lower than the Hillsborough district and Florida state averages across various subjects and grade levels, with proficiency rates ranging from 31% to 50% in ELA and Math, compared to the district's 49% to 54% and the state's 50% to 55%.

Another interesting finding is the school's diverse racial demographic composition, with a higher percentage of African American (36.11%) and Hispanic (27.99%) students compared to the nearby schools. Despite this diversity, Kids Community College Riverview Southeast has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Florida elementary schools, with a 0-star rating in the 2023-2024 school year, indicating it is among the lowest-performing schools in the state. To address these issues, the school and district may need to implement targeted interventions, review and improve instructional practices, and explore strategies used by the higher-performing nearby schools to support the diverse student population and improve educational outcomes.

Open Quote Great school that focuses specifically on helping kids as individuals. My kids continue to grow more each day with academics and socially. I feel they are being challenged and excited to go to school. Close Quote

Open Quote My son attened KCC SE from kindergarten through 3rd grade. I pulled him out of the school for many reasons. Some of the top are: lack of communication, changing curriculum and application, lack of technology, and constant change of administrative staff and teachers. My biggest concern was in 3rd grade we focused on FSA and offer “boot camps” for the students that are performing at an average level to boost scores, while students that perform lower may be pulled during class time to work on skills, even pulled out of core curriculum classes when learning and growth is happening. I take full responsibility for my child’s education and this school unfortunately did not fit our needs. Personal decision for everyone, but I would not recommend this school. Close Quote

Open Quote A small school with a great theory of education. This IB candidate school is an excellent alternative to local public schools. KCC is fast growing with new locations popping up all over South Florida. A plethora of clubs & sports outside of every day curriculum. Major draw back, no music dept., no art dept. However, the school does offer Spanish from K-5 as well as technology. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
