Webb Middle School

Summary:

Webb Middle School is a public middle school located in Tampa, Florida, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 802 students. The school is part of the Hillsborough School District, which is ranked 45 out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 2 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Webb Middle School faces significant challenges, including a student population that is 79.3% Hispanic, significantly higher than the surrounding schools, which range from 15.89% to 78.22% Hispanic students. The school also has consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 43.1% to 46.6% in recent years, much higher than nearby schools like Farnell Middle School and Coleman Middle School. Additionally, Webb Middle School's test scores are generally lower than the Hillsborough and Florida state averages, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts (ELA) ranging from 25% to 36%, compared to 47% to 54% for the district and state.

Despite these challenges, Webb Middle School has shown relatively strong proficiency rates in Algebra 1 (78-81%) and Geometry (92-100%) End-of-Course exams, outperforming the Hillsborough and Florida state averages. However, the school's overall performance has steadily declined over the years, from a statewide ranking of 634 out of 1,099 Florida middle schools in 2018-2019 to 915 out of 1,196 in 2023-2024, with a consistent 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's spending per student ($8,158 to $8,800) is also generally lower than the surrounding schools, which range from $7,744 to $11,298 per student, indicating that funding may be a contributing factor to the school's performance challenges.

Open Quote Worst Middle School, they have barley any activities for the kids, if you're a kid dealing with bullying , they dont do anything about it. There was once a teacher with depression, she put it out on the kids, my kid had a D all because that teacher was very rude to the kids, she would curse at them! So of course my kid was scared to ask her anything, A teacher at the school also had a kid attending this middle school and the kid did vaping! This was very horrible when I found out my kid was exposed to this, the people working there barely do anything about the kids vaping at the school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
