Eisenhower Middle School

Summary:

Eisenhower Middle School is an alternative public school located in Gibsonton, Florida, serving grades 2-12 with a total enrollment of 1,276 students. The school is part of the Hillsborough School District, which is ranked 45th out of 68 districts in Florida and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Eisenhower Middle School faces significant challenges, including a chronic absenteeism rate that has risen from 15.1% in 2019-2020 to 49.5% in 2022-2023, substantially higher than the district and state averages. The school's academic performance also lags behind, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math ranging from 25-32% and 13-29%, respectively, compared to the district's 47-54% and 34-55%. Additionally, Eisenhower Middle School has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 59.48% to 73.98% over the past three school years, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population.

When compared to other nearby schools, such as Kids Community College Riverview South, a public charter school located within 5 miles, Eisenhower Middle School stands out as an underperforming institution, with lower test scores, graduation rates, and higher chronic absenteeism. The high rates of chronic absenteeism and economic disadvantage among Eisenhower Middle School's student population may be contributing factors to the school's lower academic performance, and addressing these underlying issues could be crucial in improving student outcomes.

Open Quote I am thinking of pulling my child out of this school. This is our first year there and it already scares me. He has already been in a fight. Every day when he comes home from school he tells me about another fight he saw. I do not feel my son is safe here! The police that walk around I feel gives parents a false sense of security. They say they keep 6th,7th and 8th graders away from each other and they never interact. That is so not true. For some reason all the people that have befriended my child are 8th graders. I have been told they are pressuring him to smoke pot and try pills. This is absurd. Why is no one doing anything in this school to get it in order? Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
