Eastside Elementary School

Summary:

Eastside Elementary School is a public elementary school in Brooksville, Florida, serving 737 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Hernando District, which is ranked 44 out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 2 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Eastside Elementary faces several challenges compared to nearby schools. The school has a significantly higher chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 46.1% to 50.1% in recent years, which is much higher than the state and district averages. Academically, Eastside consistently underperforms the Hernando District and Florida state averages in standardized tests, including FAST/English Language Arts and FAST/Math for grades 3-5. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Eastside's 3rd grade ELA proficiency was 48%, compared to the district's 54% and the state's 55%. The school also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 68.45% to 73.13%, indicating a higher proportion of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

When compared to nearby schools in the Hernando District, such as Challenger K-8 School Of Science And Math, Eastside Elementary consistently underperforms across multiple academic measures. Additionally, Eastside's performance has declined over the years, as evidenced by its decreasing statewide ranking and SchoolDigger star rating. These factors, along with the high chronic absenteeism rate and the high percentage of students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, suggest the need for targeted interventions and support to improve student outcomes at Eastside Elementary School.

Open Quote Terrible school. Teachers falsify documents so they don’t have to actually teach kids. Bulling by teachers, I wouldn’t recommend Close Quote

Open Quote Teachers seem unqualified, they depend soley on tests and seem as though they could care less about how the kids are being taught. The school cannot keep their website updated for parent information at all and getting a hold of anyone is very difficult. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
