Atlantic Beach Elementary School

Summary:

Atlantic Beach Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 479 students in grades PK-5 in Atlantic Beach, Florida, which is part of the Duval School District. This high-performing school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Florida, with students significantly outperforming district and state averages on standardized tests across all grade levels and subjects.

While Atlantic Beach Elementary has a predominantly white student population (74.74%), which is less diverse compared to some nearby schools like Abess Park Elementary (38.67% white) and Mayport Elementary (44.95% white), the school has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (19.21% to 25.83%), suggesting a higher socioeconomic status among the student population. However, the school has experienced a relatively high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 16.2% to 21.6% over the past few years, which is an area for potential improvement.

Overall, Atlantic Beach Elementary School stands out as a high-performing institution with a strong academic track record, but it also faces some challenges related to student attendance and socioeconomic diversity that may be worth addressing to ensure continued success and equitable opportunities for all students.

Open Quote We have our daughter at ABE. We have found the teacher's and administration's engagement to be outstanding. Everyone knows your child by first name and is invested in their success. We have a very involved PTA aswell. She loves the school and has learned leadership skills in addition to academics. Close Quote

Open Quote My son has been dealing with issues since we started him at Atlantic Beach. They have a serious Mold issue and they keep trying to cover it up. My son comes home everyday with headaches. His teacher is AMAZING but after seeing multiple students becoming sick from this school is heart wrenching. Even the teachers are sick! This school needs to be torn down and rebuilt! Do not recommend MOLD ISSUES! Close Quote

Open Quote We are Midwestern transplants coming from terrific Blue Ribbon schools. We were moving to Atlantic Beach and we were very concerned with the reputation of the public schools. We prefer sending our children to school with neighborhood kids but we were willing to do whatever it takes to give our kids a great educational experience. We spent considerable time researching the private, parochial and the public school opportunities for our children and after interviewing parents and faculty who seemed equally committed to great education (and who raved about ABE), we chose to send our daughter to Atlantic Beach Elementary. It was a very good decision for us. She continued getting straight A’s, she scored 5’s on the FCAT and was elected to Student Council. We are very satisfied with our decision and thrilled to be a part of such a dynamic community.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
