Bent Tree Elementary School

Summary:

Bent Tree Elementary School is a public elementary school in Miami, Florida, serving 395 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Miami-Dade school district, which is ranked 24th out of 68 districts in the state.

Bent Tree Elementary consistently outperforms the Miami-Dade and Florida state averages in standardized test scores, with 74% of 5th graders proficient or better in ELA compared to 56% for Miami-Dade and 55% for Florida, and 86% proficient or better in math compared to 59% for Miami-Dade and 56% for Florida. The school has a significantly higher Hispanic student population (96.46%) compared to nearby schools and the state average. However, Bent Tree has also experienced higher chronic absenteeism rates in recent years, ranging from 9.9% to 23.5%, and a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 59.49% to 81.7%.

When compared to the nearby Academir Charter School East At Doral, Academir Charter School West, and other local schools, Bent Tree Elementary stands out for its higher academic performance, particularly in math and science. This suggests the school is effectively supporting student learning and achievement, despite facing some challenges related to chronic absenteeism and socioeconomic factors.

Open Quote The school is not the problem, in reality the teachers make the school and I honestly believe this schools got potential. I don't want to throw anyone under the bus BUT being that this is my Daughters 1st year at this school.... it's been tough. When you have a teacher that tells her 3rd grade students that she doesn't care if they want to learn because she is getting paid regardless, it's not good. Again, the school isn't the problem because when there is a problem, they direct the situation right away. It's this one teacher in particular that's really bring the school down. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
